Amazon Regional Environmental Data Platform
The Amazon Regional Observatory's platform (ORA/ACTO): environmental data from the 8 Amazon Basin countries, consolidated in one place and published in three languages.

The challenge
The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) needed a platform to publish integrated, consolidated environmental data from its 8 member countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
Environmental data spread across 8 countries, each with its own sources and formats
An international audience of governments, researchers and negotiators working in Portuguese, Spanish and English
Data had to hold up in climate studies and negotiations, not just sit on a website
What we built
The Amazon Regional Observatory's portal: the region's data, maps and publications in one place, serving as the technical reference for the member countries.
One base for 8 countries
Environmental information from the Amazon countries, consolidated into a single source instead of eight.
Geospatial products
Maps, datasets and interactive tools in the same portal, including the climate-projections story map and the near-real-time fire monitor.
Bulletins and library
Environmental monitoring bulletins, publications and videos organised into a searchable collection.
Three languages
Portuguese, Spanish and English, for the governments, researchers and international bodies that use the data.
What it changed
Data from 8 countries on one platform
Environmental information from the Amazon countries consolidated in one place.
Technical basis for climate negotiations
Supports studies and international negotiations at climate and climate-change events.
Coordinated public policy
Backs regional public-policy decisions taken jointly by the member countries.
